The slasher that started it all. Loosely based on the 1973 novel by Lois Duncan, the 1997 horror hit follows a group of teen friends who are stalked by a frightening fisherman a year after they covered up a fatal car accident.
I Know What You Did Last Summer starred Hewitt, Prinze, Sarah Michelle Gellar and Ryan Phillippe. It was written by Scream screenwriter Kevin Williamson and was a pop culture and box office hit, making more than $125 million worldwide, according to BoxOfficeMojo.

I Still Know What You Did Last Summer (1998)

'I Still Know What You Did Last Summer' (1998).
A sequel was released a year later, in 1998, and starred Hewitt and Prinze, reprising their respective roles of Julie and Ray. The second entry takes place a year after the first movie, and brings the action to the Bahamas, as Julie and her friends are once again the target of a killer with a bloody barb.
Jennifer Kaytin Robinson, the director of the 2025 I Know What You Did Last Summer teased to PEOPLE that the new movie has "one really, really fantastic nod to I Still Know What You Did Last Summer that people are going to love."

I Know What You Did Last Summer got the TV treatment in a 2021 remake for the small screen.
The series moved the setting to Hawaii and consisted of eight episodes. It starred Madison Iseman, Ezekiel Goodman, Brianne Tju, Ashley Moore, Cassie Beck, Sebastian Amoruso, Fiona Rene, Brooke Bloom and Bill Heck.
Amazon described it as "a modern take on the hit 1997 horror film that honors the same chilling premise — in a town full of secrets, a group of teenagers are stalked by a mysterious killer a year after a fatal accident on their graduation night."
Showrunner Sara Goodman told PEOPLE that the TV remake was "a fresh start. That said, we scattered some Easter eggs throughout the series which should be fun for the fans of the movie to discover."
It premiered in October 2021 and was cancelled after one season.

"We very purposefully wanted to make this movie both for fans of the original who are coming to this and excited about the easter eggs but also for a new audience that can find I Know and almost watch the first one like a prequel," the director told PEOPLE. "That was very front of mind for me as we made this movie."
